8:34pm: phone call #1 to the Dollar General in Mentone, IN. No answer.
8:36pm: phone call #2 to Viking Liquors in Mentone, IN. No answer.
8:37pm: phone call #3 to Walmart in Mentone's neighboring town. Success.
The conversation began with a series of questions: "What's that town near you called? Men-tone? You know that giant egg they have there? Is it still there? Like will I be able to see it in the dark?"
Walmart employee: "Why would you want to see it in the dark?"
Becky: "Well I have this bucket list..."
And after plenty of explaining, our destination was confirmed.
Just one hour and forty-eight minutes from Dyer stands the world's largest concrete egg.
Located on the corner of Morgan and Main in the town with a population of only 1,001, this large pearly white rests in the shrubbery between Dollar General and the town bank. As the only signs of life in the ghost town, we stood in awe of this beautiful beast of concrete. The sight was most definitely worth each of the 194.5 miles we spent on our mini road trip.
Maybe someday we'll meet again.
